While the use of Big Data for transportation analysis isn't exactly new, the range of metrics and applications to traffic engineering is continually evolving and expanding. This training will focus on the current state of the practice for the use of Big Data for traffic engineering. The program will provide an overview with universal concepts and definitions related to Big Data, then dive into more detail by exploring how the StreetLight InSight® platform applies to some of the more common transportation planning and operations use cases.

The training will be led by Jim Hubbell, AICP. He is a solution engineer with StreetLight Data, where he helps a wide range of customers leverage the power of big data to solve complex, multimodal transportation questions. He believes in the value of performance-based planning and using data to drive smart, transportation related decisions. Prior to joining StreetLight in 2018, Jim worked for 18 years as a transportation planner with the Mid-America Regional Council, metropolitan planning organization for the greater Kansas City region, where he gained broad-based experience in the transportation planning field. He also serves on the Urban Transportation Data and Information Systems Committee (AED20) of the Transportation Research Board.
